Studious Mean Girls

Image
I was rummaging through my old stuff when I found these comics that I barely remember drawing when I was in high school. At first glance, I thought the story was about mean girls discussing new fashion trends or boys. (They’re even wearing high heels.) But to my surprise, they were actually talking about school exams and projects! I’m not sure where the story was headed, but I can imagine a sequel where they actually become mean girls. LOL!

Roses Are Tricky

Image
I've been trying to learn how to paint roses in acrylic, and roses have been the hardest to learn so far. My last painting of roses was...quite a mess, haha, with all the bright incoherent colors. So, I tried another one with a different approach. Still not how I exactly wanted it to look, but yeep, with practice, I'll get there.

I’m Setting Aside Comics-Making for A While

Image
It has been difficult to get back to comics-making in the past three months. A lot of thumbs of Tangerine Comics have been waiting for me to illustrate and finalize but I just couldn't get myself to do so. I still wanted to get out of the creative slump though. So, while I'm currently disinterested in making comics, I thought of painting instead – something I rarely do. And hopefully, this detour will trigger my senses and eventually get me back to creating comics again.

My Hope for 2021

Image
I started 2020 with this drawing, hopeful that it would be a better year than 2019. But as it has turned out, the year was not as I, and surely everyone else around the globe, have imagined it to be or hoped to be.  Who would have thought that in 2020, the whole world would come to a standstill, with most forced to stay at home for the safety of everyone? As of this writing, the SARS-CoV-2 virus has already infected 90.1 million people worldwide and has killed 1.9 million of them. The numbers continue to rise to this day. And although vaccines are about to be rolled out, the global pandemic does not seem to be ending anytime soon. A more contagious variant of the deadly virus is being detected in many countries, sparking fresh fears and uncertainties. Having said that, it's difficult to hope for 2021 with the same measure of hope and excitement that I had at the beginning of 2020. But nonetheless, I choose – no, I push myself – to continue being hopeful until every ounce of hope wi

Keep Your Hands Clean

Image
Here are illustrations I did during the 2020 Global Handwashing Day.  Proper handwashing has never been more crucial since the start of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Keeping our hands clean with soap and water is one of the simplest but most important habits we can have to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, thereby protecting ourselves and our loved ones.

Pink is Not My Favorite Color

Image
What is your favorite color? You might guess mine is pink when you look at my drawings here. But it's not. In fact, my color preference changes depending on my current mood when working on a project, and I was probably feeling ~pink~ when I did these drawings, i.e.,  feminine, contemplative, and wishful (at least to my definition). Pink may not be my favorite color, but admittedly, it's pleasing to the eyes.

My Countryside Remembrance

Image
In the province where I go home for holidays are vast fields and many trees. Last Christmas, the countryside scenery inspired me to practice my watercolor  – a medium I rarely use – and create these artworks. I’m glad I picked up my brushes back then, because now, I have something to remind me of home while I can’t be there this Christmas .
