My Hope for 2021

I started 2020 with this drawing, hopeful that it would be a better year than 2019. But as it has turned out, the year was not as I, and surely everyone else around the globe, have imagined it to be or hoped to be.

Who would have thought that in 2020, the whole world would come to a standstill, with most forced to stay at home for the safety of everyone? As of this writing, the SARS-CoV-2 virus has already infected 90.1 million people worldwide and has killed 1.9 million of them. The numbers continue to rise to this day. And although vaccines are about to be rolled out, the global pandemic does not seem to be ending anytime soon. A more contagious variant of the deadly virus is being detected in many countries, sparking fresh fears and uncertainties.

Having said that, it's difficult to hope for 2021 with the same measure of hope and excitement that I had at the beginning of 2020. But nonetheless, I choose – no, I push myself – to continue being hopeful until every ounce of hope within me runs out. And more than just hoping for "better days ahead" this new year, I'm also praying that whatever the future holds – may that be more rough rides – God will give us the strength, wisdom, and patience we need to get through these trying times.

May 2021 be safer for us all. Happy New Year.
