Pink is Not My Favorite Color

Image
What is your favorite color? You might guess mine is pink when you look at my drawings here. But it's not. In fact, my color preference changes depending on my current mood when working on a project, and I was probably feeling ~pink~ when I did these drawings, i.e.,  feminine, contemplative, and wishful (at least to my definition). Pink may not be my favorite color, but admittedly, it's pleasing to the eyes.

My Countryside Remembrance

Image
In the province where I go home for holidays are vast fields and many trees. Last Christmas, the countryside scenery inspired me to practice my watercolor  – a medium I rarely use – and create these artworks. I’m glad I picked up my brushes back then, because now, I have something to remind me of home while I can’t be there this Christmas .

Why I Created “Quarantine Diaries”

Image
Last October, I joined the Inktober challenge by drawing single-panel comics of a ginger-haired character. Titled as "Quarantine Diaries", her story revolves around her daily life inside her own home while her community is on quarantine. It is loosely based on my personal experience during this present COVID-19 pandemic that has put countries around the globe into lockdown. Living away from family and socially distancing from friends has not been easy for me. Add to that the constant fear and worry about possibly contracting the virus that has already killed more than 1.75 million around the globe as of this writing. Thankfully, drawing daily snips of her life has somehow allowed me to cope better and stay ~sane~ during these trying times. It has a therapeutic effect, akin to the effect of putting thoughts into writing. And I hope that as you read them, you will be inspired to stay positive, too. What we are going through right now shall also pass. Here are my Inktober dr

Graduation Toss

2020 has been a rough ride for all of us. Faced with a tough unseen enemy, we fought back with ways we were never accustomed to or comfortable with, and maybe never will be – social distancing, home quarantine, and wearing a mask, among others. The year is drawing to a close, and whether all its troubles will also end with it remains uncertain. However, let us not waver in this fight; our efforts are bearing fruit, slow it may seem. As we move forward to 2021, I dream that the new year will be brighter than the past; that the world will be a safer place again. In time, we can freely enjoy the company of our friends and family as we used to. In time, we can explore the fresh outdoor with no fear once more. In time, we can clearly see each other’s beautiful smiles again. For then, we shall graduate from this adversity, and we will all be tossing our face masks in the air.

I Won't Be Home for Christmas

Image
Here’s a comic I made last December. Every year, I go home for Christmas. But this year, I won’t be able to. I’m usually away from home for about four months, only returning home during long non-working holidays. But this year is different – I haven’t been home for a year, and maybe I still won’t be in a few months or so with all the uncertainties brought by the pandemic. Nevertheless, I remain grateful to God that he has kept me and my family safe during these difficult times. And I pray that for those of us who can’t be with our families right now, we’ll still feel the spirit of Christmas and remember how Jesus, out of love, came down to dwell with us and save us - enough reason to be joyful for. I pray that we will not feel lonely. For as a song goes, “Your promise tells us, You’re always with us, We’re not alone, You are here.” Merry Christmas!

Hello!

Image
Welcome to my website, where you will find white spaces transformed by inks and paints. I am not an artist by profession, but I am an artist at heart. My 8-hour day job involves number crunching and analytical thinking – obviously nothing arts-related – but to nurture my creative side, I try to balance my work with a hobby of drawing and comic making. Here, you can find some of my creations, which I hope you will enjoy and perhaps be inspired by in your own creative pursuits. Cheers! Sabri Caye
